Child cooking

‘Play:Full’ is part of our Growing Minds initiative in Littlemore. The project was designed during the Covid pandemic, as a way to connect with the local community, build parents’ confidence in the kitchen, improve family mealtimes and help parents teach their children about food.

As part of a 6-week programme, parents received weekly deliveries of recipe ingredients and a step-by-step video showing them how to make that week’s recipe. Parents also participated in a WhatsApp discussion and a weekly Zoom group to discuss their experiences and learn more.

After Covid, the Play:Full progamme evolved into an in-person slow cooker group.  Members of the group were gifted new slow cookers and came together each week to prepare dishes which they could later create at home for their families.  The focus was on healthy, delicious and affordable family meals.  The sessions were very well attended and proved a popular addition to the group offerings in Littlemore.

We are delighted to say that the programme is now run independently by former group attendees who are relishing the opportunity of taking the slow cooker group to even more Littlemore residents.  This group is a great example of what can be achieved when communities come together in such a holistic way.
